THE NEED TO CREATE A MILITARY SPACE CENTER WITHIN THE POLISH ARMED FORCES
Main Article Content
Abstract
The world's leading countries have had space components operating as part of their armies for years. These include types of armed forces (USA, Russian Federation, People's Republic of China), types of troops (France, Great Britain) or command centers (Germany, Italy, Japan). Their numbers range from over 10.000 soldiers to several dozen people. Generally, the tasks are limited to monitoring the Earth from space and maintaining communication and navigation systems used by the army. Poland is becoming more and more advanced in satellite operations. The needs today go beyond standard cooperation within the Polish Space Agency. There is a need to create a new space component within the Polish Armed Forces. Their tasks would not differ from international standards in this area, and this unit would initially consist of 32 soldiers and 10 civilians. The organizational structure should include departments such as: Geophysics and Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Support for the Armed Forces, Communications, Observations, International Cooperation, Cybersecurity. The center will be subordinated to the Air Force. Commencement of operations mid-2025.
